Musicroamer

As much as I love Pandora, there are times when you just want to poke around for some new music (and not dealing with the skips, ads, etc.); Musicroamer lets you do just that.  Check it out.

Google tv vs. Apple tv

I've going back and forth between Google tv and Apple tv for a while.  This video gave a pretty solid comparison of the two.  Based on price point and what I'm going to be using it for (Netflix, streaming music, etc.) I'm going with Apple tv.

Bobcat Nation

Men's Nescacs are this weekend at Bowdoin.  Bates has had one of their best swimming & diving seasons since early 2000 and I'm eager to see how they do.  Good luck.

Pandora

I am a huge fan of Pandora.  I listen to it so much I had to upgrade my account because I had hit the free limit.  I'll admit, this is kind of sad; maybe I should give the whole conversation thing another try... but sometimes I can't help it, sometimes you get lost in the groove.

One of the best articles I read in 2009 was this New York Times piece on Pandora.  It talks a lot about the history of the company and how they constructed the music algorithm but what I found most interesting, was the way Pandora calls attention to what defines people's musical preferences.

"Pandora’s approach more or less ignores the crowd. It is indifferent to the possibility that any given piece of music in its system might become a hit. The idea is to figure out what you like, not what a market might like. More interesting, the idea is that the taste of your cool friends, your peers, the traditional music critics, big-label talent scouts and the latest influential music blog are all equally irrelevant. That’s all cultural information, not musical information. And theoretically at least, Pandora’s approach distances music-liking from the cultural information that generally attaches to it."

Check it out and let me know what you think.

"Our vision gives people of all ages and surfing levels the ability to enjoy a beach environment and a real surfing experience...beyond the oceans of the world. Wavegarden’s cutting edge technology allows for the creation of a broad and customisable range of authentic surfing waves in a safe and natural environment. This cost effective and environmentally friendly wave generation technology is now available to the public and for the first time makes economically-viable inland wave sports and lifestyle facilities possible."

I think Central Park is due for one of these.

Heaven.

The VT Country Deli falls somewhere between swimming in a pool of Samoa girl scout cookies and losing your virginity.

My friend has some salivating visuals Here.

Snapped this gem while waiting for my super bowl order at Hooters. Look at his eyes, he's almost as happy as this kid:

1st Post

I recently had a conversation with a friend about how there are only a few bands today (living and touring) that I really feel connected to.  I don't mean this in the sense that I want hold a seance and and get Jim James on my ouija board; more that every time you watch them perform you're not just nodding your head in agreement but sort of loose yourself in the performance.  You find your mind wandering around the stage memorized by the axe work, completely captivated by the harmony, knowledge, creativity, the authenticity of it all.  You think to yourself,  this guy is like the Spock of guitar players but probably drinks a little more whiskey.  But then you'll turn to your buddy and it will come out. "dude, this is fucking awesome."  What I'm trying to say is I'm not really getting all that from Kesha and it's nice to see once in a while.

Anyway, I was at this concert last summer and MMJ is "fucking awesome."
